Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) is the immediate treatment of a person who has had a high risk of exposure to HIV with a 28 day course of HIV antiretroviral therapy (ART) medications.
For treatment to be effective PEP should be started as soon as possible and no longer than 72 hours following exposure risk.
