In collaboration with WHO WPRO, Albion International is the key facilitator of the ‘WHO Network for HIV and Health in the Western Pacific Region’, established in December 2008. This Network has 18 multidisciplinary member organizations across nine countries in the Region.

The mission of the Network is:

“To collaborate in supporting Member States to implement effective multidisciplinary public health approaches to HIV according to WHO strategic directions”.

The objectives of the Network are:

  1. Provide Member States with sustainable technical assistance through a multidisciplinary Network.
  2. Ensure quality of technical assistance through consistent and coherent approaches provided by a Network of experts in the field.
  3. Support Member States to build health system capacity in HIV and Health.
  4. Contribute to critical review, update of evidence, scientific debate and operational research related to HIV and Health.
  • Development of Infection Control Toolkit for Resource Limited Settings (June 2006 – September 2007)

Albion International developed an infection prevention and control toolkit for low and middle income countries.

  • Development of a Day Care Centre Training Manual (Oct 2004 – May 2005)

KEY FOCUS: Home-based and palliative care

This training manual was developed as a component of a WPRO Regional Training Package on HIV/AIDS Care and Treatment (World Health Organization / Western Pacific Regional Office October 2004). The manual was developed in order to train people living with HIV (PLHIV), members of non-government organizations, or community-based organizations and others to actively participate as volunteers in Day Care Centres.

  • Home and Community Based Care Manual for People Living with HIV/AIDS (October – December 2003)

This manual was developed for people living with HIV (PLHIV), families, community volunteers and organizations providing care for PLHIV. It aims to provide information about the medical and psychosocial aspects of care in the home.

  • UNAIDS and WHO Consultation on Progress and Prevention and Care Scale-Up in the Context of ‘3×5′ Initiative and the Perspective of Universal Access in the Western Pacific region Workshop on Universal Access by 2010 (May 2005)

KEY FOCUS: Review of Strategies

Consultation focused on the review of ‘3 x 5’ and the strategies required for Universal access by 2010. Albion International provided technical input for the development of recommendations for action towards universal access, facilitation of working groups addressing voluntary counselling and testing and human resource development capacity.

  • Workshop on training and patient monitoring / reporting on HIV Care (January – February 2005)

Albion International provided technical input to assist the priority countries for the WPRO region (Cambodia, China, Vietnam and Papua New Guinea) to develop country action plans for a coordinated national training program and patient monitoring system. Responsible also for delivering presentations and facilitating discussions on developing and implementing training programmes, building local partnerships, and training for PLHIV and other volunteers.

  • Comprehensive Package of HIV Services for MSM in Asia Pacific (2009/2010)

Albion International was engaged to assist HSI (HIV/AIDS/STI team within the DCC-Division of Communicable Diseases of WHO WPRO) in the development of a Regional Comprehensive Package to:

  1. Describe the priority health sector interventions that are needed to achieve universal access by men who have sex with men (MSM) for HIV and STI prevention, treatment, care and support.
  2. Summarise key policy and technical recommendations developed by WHO, related to each of the priority health sector interventions.
  3. Guide the selection and prioritisation of interventions for HIV, prevention, treatment, care and support for MSM.
  4. Direct readers to key resources of WHO and other organisations containing the best available information on the health sector response to HIV and AIDS for MSM.
